No arrests after 7 shot, 1 badly beaten in Sandusky bar

SANDUSKY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

No arrests have been made and investigation continues after an incident early Sunday morning at a bar in Sandusky, where seven people were shot and one person was badly beaten.

According to the Sandusky Police Department, the incident occurred around 4 a.m. at DJs Sports Bar, located at 1643 Cleveland Road.

Police say seven people were shot, but their injuries are not expected to be life threatening. An eighth victim was flown to an area hospital by Life Flight. An update on the victims' conditions has not yet been released.

Neighbors say Geno's is a restaurant by day, and a popular hangout by night. While they say it sometimes gets rowdy, they never expected the scene they saw on Sunday.

"I was terrified. Me and my kids, you know, went in the back room, and I just turned the fan up so they couldn't hear," said Tiffany Hathorn, who lives behind Geno's.

The sight and sounds of people getting shot left neighbors and party goers shocked.

911 Dispatch: Hello, can I help you?
Caller: Oh my God. It's a shooting at um, DJs. I don't know the address. I don't know, but somebody is shot. Two people is shot. I'm scared. I don't know.

Trouble started at the former DJs Sports Bar, now known as Geno's, around 4 a.m., when a fight broke out in the parking lot.

Caller: One is laying on the ground. He might be even dead right now.
911 Dispatch: OK. We have them en route! We have them en route!

Authorities say that man laying on the concrete was 28-year-old Tyshaun Washington, who was jumped by several men as shots rang out. He remains in critical condition at a Toledo hospital.

The seven shooting victims all survived, mostly with leg injuries, but neighbors like Hathorn say this was not a first-time event.

"During the day it's safe, because I know everybody around here. But at night, no. No. I don't feel safe," said Hathorn.

There have been 12 reports of violence at Geno's within the last year. One of them was on Saturday, less than 24 hours before the shooting. Police records show a possible fight involving nearly 40 people broke out. Officers later found a jacket laying in the parking lot with a lock blade knife inside.

Police say they have not made any arrests related to Sunday's shooting. Officers are in the process of speaking with witnesses to determine what led to the shooting.

Anyone with more information should contact the Sandusky Police Department at 419-627-5863.
