ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Athens firefighters are trying to figure out what started an early Monday morning fire that destroyed a home already damaged in last month's deadly tornadoes.

The call came in around 12 p.m. Monday for a fire on the 500 block of North Beaty Street near East McClellan Street.

The homeowner's family members said three people lived inside, but no one was home at the time. They also said the home hadn't had power since the April 28 tornadoes, but the people were living inside and using candles. They're not sure if one of the candles fell over and caused the fire.

Family members said a dog is missing, but they're not sure if it ran away during the fire.

The home is a total loss. No injuries have been reported.
