FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Police arrested two men in connection with a burglary at a pharmacy in Florence thanks in part to a citizen's tip.

Officers responded to Florence Pharmacy located on Veterans Drive shortly after 4:30 a.m. Monday. They said someone saw two suspicious-looking people in a nearby neighborhood and called authorities.

Police arrested Marquis D. McCray, 25, and Darnell L. Gilbert, 24, both of Sheffield. Officers, with the help of a K-9 unit, were able to locate the men after a search of a wooded area nearby the pharmacy.

"In my opinion the citizen solved the case right there for us," said Sergeant Cliff Billingsley. "We would not have known that they were on foot at that time. As far as we know, they may have left. The K-9 would have tracked, but the timing was crucial in this matter because they were still in the area."

Investigators said pills believed to be taken during the burglary were recovered.

Both suspects were taken to the Lauderdale County Detention Center. They are charged with burglary and theft.
