CAMILLA, GA (WALB) -
An act of kindness travels all the way from California to Camilla. A South Georgia woman says someone found her dad's urn thousands of miles away.
Her dad's and her brother's ashes was sent to California, only for her dad's to turn up in the hands of someone who found it beach side. Tonia Livingston says she was surprised to know someone found her dad's urn on the west coast, and to give her dad the final respect he deserves.
"For someone to care that much about someone that didn't even know to do that for him," said Tonia Livingston.
Livingston's father passed away two years ago. In February, a family friend took his ashes to California to spread them in the ocean. She never heard back.
"I'm just thinking he wants to come back," said Livingston.
She received a message yesterday from a woman who found the urn on a beach in Marina, California. The ashes were still inside.
"And so they picked it up and looked around for the lid. They found it and put it together and on the bottom was my dad's name Freddie Harrison. And she thought she needed to do something special," said Tonia Livingston.
Megan Salanoa looked up Harrison's obituary and tracked down Livingston on Facebook. She told Livingston she created a property memorial site for her dad.
"She sent me pictures she had taken up on a hillside in California by the ocean. The urn was placed with flowers. They [held] a moment of silence for him," said Tonia Livingston.
Livingston says she is amazed a total stranger took such good care of her dad's remains.
"That there is still good people in this world and people that care about others and that's the way it should be."
Megan Salanoa now plans to send the urn back to Tonia Livingston here in South Georgia soon.
