JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) - A preliminary report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol says a motorcyclist was traveling at a very high rate of speed when his vehicle collided with a Johnson City vehicle. The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

THP says the driver in the truck, 63-year-old Elmer Rush, was trying to turn onto East Watauga at the intersection with New Street.

But, at that moment investigators say a motorcycle, driven by 25-year-old Chance Cicora, collided with the truck.

THP said Cicora was thrown from the motorcycle. He died at the scene.

Rush was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.

No charges have been filed.  According to a preliminary report by THP, investigators believe Cicora may have had drugs in his system. Authorities are awaiting a toxicology analysis to determine whether drugs were a factor in this crash.

The posted speeds on East Watauga Avenue and New Street are 30 mph.  Troopers blocked the intersection for several hours to clean up debris and investigate the crash.
