Man in custody after stabbing a Hamilton police officer

HAMILTON,AL (WBRC) - A Hamilton police officer is recovering in a Mississippi hospital today after being  stabbed Friday night.  Hamilton Police Chief Ronnie Vickery said the officer was patrolling an intersection when he was approached by the suspect. 

The suspect 30 year old Tarance Edwards of Hamilton attacked the officer stabbing him several
times in the head and arm.  Edwards ran off after the stabbing.  He was taken into custody
a short time later after he was found hiding behind a relative's house.

The officer was transported by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. His condition is not known at this time.  Edwards is being held in the Marion County Jail charged with two counts of Attempted Murder.
