Three men in custody after illegally accessing bank accounts to purchase gift cards

GARDENDALE,AL (WBRC) - Three men orginally from Africa were arrested Friday in Gardendale for fraudulently accessing Region's Bank customer's accounts to purchase gift cards at a Wal-Mart store.

Police say just before the arrest the men had already purchased almost 3 thousand dollars in gift cards.  The men were caught after the Regions Bank Card Monitoring Group detected the illegal activity taking place in real time.

Gardendale Police were notfied while the men were in the process of trying to buy gift cards using re-encoded debit and credit cards.

The suspects have been identified as 25 year old Samuel Bamidele Cole of Lanham, Maryland, 32 year old Olakunle Oluwaseun Ijiti of Clinton, Marland,  and 32 year old  Antwi K. Boamong of Springdale, Maryland.  Cole and Ijiti were born in Nigeria. Boamong was born in Ghana.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement have placed immigration detainters on Cole and Ijiti who
were both arrested recently in Nashville for a similar type crime.

All of the suspects are in custody at the Jefferson County Jail on  Trafficking and Stolen Identities charges. They are being held on a 1 million dollar bond. 

Police say the investigation is ongoing and there may be additional charges.
