LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Ardmore police reported a high speed chase that started in Ardmore and ended near Athens on Saturday night.

Police said Officer Mickey Glover pursued the driver over 20 miles with speeds of 87 mph on Highway 251. They said the chase ended after the vehicle was spiked near Athens.

Authorities said the driver, Steven Michael Lewter, was charged with evading police, numerous traffic citations including a DUI, and possession of a controlled substance.

Lewter was arrested last July for stealing a truck from an Athens gas station. Police said he pulled an 11-year-old from the truck before taking off. He was charged with robbery and theft in that incident.
