HAMILTON,AL (WBRC) - The mother of a man charged with stabbing a Hamilton Police Officer has been charged with hindering prosecution and resisting arrest.

Police say 56-year-old Judy Edwards allegedly tried to prevent her son from being arrested.
Her son, 30-year-old Tarrance Edwards was arrested Friday night after allegedly attacking and stabbing a Hamilton police officer.

The officer was conducting routine checks at a four way stop when he observed Edwards walking towards him. Edwards tossed a bag in the process. When the officer tried to speak to Edwards about the bag, police say Edwards stabbed the officer several times in the head as well as his tricep.

Edwards ran off after the attack but was later taken into custody. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder. Both mother and son are being held in the Marion County Jail.

The officer underwent surgery for his injuries. His condition is not known at this time.
