ARAB, AL (WAFF) -

One man is in custody after a restaurant robbery attempt involving a knife.

Arab police tracked the suspect and caught him less than an hour after the holdup attempt at the Captain D's on N. Brindlee Mountain Parkway.

Police said the man forced his way into the restaurant before it opened to the public. He began to wave his knife and demand money. Some restaurant employees fled through the back of the building. They were not hurt. The robber also ran away.

Police found some clothes behind a nearby business believed to be the robber's before the suspect's apprehension. They credit residents for their help; neighbors began calling police as soon as they noticed the suspect fleeing the area.

"We got a call that someone had seen him at Major Motors, or in the area of Major Motors," said Arab Police Sergeant Scotty Watson. "That's when one of our officers went on scene and apprehended the suspect."

Arab Police said Monday afternoon that 21-year-old Leon Malik Vaughn of Guntersville was charged with attempted robbery.

Vaughn is being held in the Arab City Jail awaiting bond.
