HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The 35th running of the Cotton Row Run is in the books.

More than 3,000 runners jammed the Huntsville city streets for the 10K race alone.

Men's winner Kimuta Cheruiyot crossed the tape in 29 minutes and 20 seconds, just 10 seconds off from setting a new course record. Had he broken the record, Cheruiyot would have earned a $5,000 bonus from event organizers.

On the women's side, Sophy Jepchirchir crossed the finish in 33 minutes and 46 seconds to earn her title.

Both winners pocketed $1,200 for their efforts.

Local finishers in the men's race:

  1. Brandon York, Madison - 31:15
  2. Josh Whitehead, Madison - 32:15
  3. Donny Barnes, Huntsville - 34:42
Local finishers in the women's race:
  1. Kylie Lemon, Huntsville - 38:06
  2. Jay Motley, Huntsville - 39:31
  3. Neta Ezer, Huntsville - 40:02

It was a great day to step out on the patio, grill, or go out for a swim - but the same could hardly be said for Monday's runners. Monday's sticky morning weather played a factor in their times, according to some participants.
