Funeral plans announced for Hokes Bluff mayor

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Hokes Bluff Mayor Gary Reeves.

The Etowah County Coroner says Reeves, 73, died from congestive heart failure at UAB Hospital around 6 a.m. on Monday.

All services will be held at the Hokes Bluff Funeral Chapel in Glencoe. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the funeral will start at 3 p.m.

Reeves was serving his second term as the mayor of Hokes Bluff. He was retired from Alabama Power.

The City of Hokes Bluff issued the following statement about his death:

"The City of Hokes Bluff is saddened by the loss of our Mayor Gary Reeves. Mayor Reeves served on the City Council prior to being elected Mayor in 2008. He was a lifelong resident of Hokes Bluff, and loved our community. He was recently voted by area Etowah County Students the "Hometown Hero Award" as well as the "Overtime Award" given by the Hokes Bluff Athletic Club. He was a servant to our community and friend to every citizen. Mayor Reeves will truly be missed.

Arrangements will be posted on www.cityofhokesbluff.com as soon as they are available."
