HOOVER, AL (WBRC) -

A suspect is in custody after a two-hour standoff with Hoover police.

9-1-1 dispatch received calls of shots fired around 5:25 p.m. Monday in the 1700 block of Valpar Drive. Capt. Jim Coker says officers arrived at the scene in about four minutes where they heard shots from outside the home.

After approximately two hours, the suspect exited the house and Coker says he fired shots before going back inside. Eventually, the man came out again and officers were able to negotiate with him and he laid down his firearm.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Hoover Jail. Coker says no charges have been filed yet but that could change pending the completion of the investigation.
