TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

An annual tradition that started in 2003, Movies in the Park returned to Reid Park for the summer, and sadly this weekend is the final movie for summer 2014.

This summer tradition began with a projector and a "repurposed bed sheet" and has since grown into a community favorite.  Movies in the Park is a partnership between Cox Communications and the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance.

The public is invited to bring a blanket, lawn chair or something to sit on to enjoy a free movie.  Treats like popcorn and soda, as well as food vendors are available during the movie event.  It is truly a family evening with live music and jumping castles as well as balloon twisters and an arts and crafts exhibit from area non-profits.

"As a member of the community we love kicking off summer with Movies in the Park," said Cox Communications Vice President for Southern Arizona, Lisa Lovallo.  "It is a great opportunity to bring neighbors together and we appreciate the opportunity to say thank you for their support."

Activities begin at 5:30 p.m. with the movie showing on a 40 foot screen at dusk, at Reid Park Demeester Performing Arts Pavilion (900 S. Randolph Way, Tucson). Those wanting to see the movie are encouraged to get to Demeester early and plan on using the alternate parking at Hi Corbett Field.
