DALEVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

A Daleville man who was arrested and charged with attempted murder of a police officer after he allegedly pointed an AK-47 at the officer is being released from jail on a $250,000 bond.

Samuel D. Hone III was arrested on May 27th after someone claiming to be his wife called the police department to say Hone had left their home with a gun and four magazines.

Daleville Police Chief Harvey Mathis says his officers responded to the call that Tuesday morning and the wife told officers Hone was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and was off his medication.

Less than 20 minutes after the call, an officer located and stopped Hone on North Daleville Avenue. The officer reported that Hone stopped his vehicle, got out, and pointed the gun at him. It was at that point, according to Chief Mathis, that the officer fired shots at the man.

Hone then got back into his vehicle, put the gun down and placed his hands out of the car window in an effort to surrender. Hone was then taken to the Dale County Jail.

District Attorney Kirke Adams confirms that Hone was released after receiving treatment at the V-A Hospital. The conditions of Hone's release include home confinement, continuing treatment and medications. He's also not allowed to possess any firearms.
