MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Former Principal of Dannelly Elementary, Emily R. Little, will serve as the new principal of Forest Avenue Academic Magnet School for the 2014 to 2015 school year.

A special meeting on Wednesday, held by the Montgomery County Board of Education, named Little as principal of the National Blue Ribbon School. She will be replacing former principal Jan Hill, who retired in November after serving the school for 10 years.

MPS Superintendent Margaret Allen said Little's administrative experience should be a plus as efforts are continued to ensure academic excellence for every Forest Avenue student.

"I have known Emily for years and I am confident that she will remain dedicated in her work with students, staff and parents. She is excited and eager to lead this program that already has great acclaim to its next level of success," said Allen.

Little, who is currently principal at Dannelly Elementary, has been with MPS for more than 16 years. She began her career with teaching experiences at King and MacMillan International Academy, and has had administrative experiences at Vaughn Road Elementary, Highland Gardens Elementary and Dannelly Elementary, where she has been principal for eight years.

Her first day at Forest Avenue will be July 1, 2014.
