HOOVER, AL (WBRC) -

Hoover police say a man involved in a two-hour standoff on Monday night has been committed to a medical facility.

After getting a report of shots fired, Hoover police officers responded to a home in the 1700 block of Valpar Drive around 5:25 p.m. on Monday, May 26.

HPD Captain Jim Coker said officers found an "armed individual" at the residence. The man left the home after about two hours and Coker said he fired shots before going back inside.

Eventually, the man came out again and officers were able to negotiate with him and he laid down his firearm. Police said the situation was resolved without injury and the man was taken to the Hoover Jail.

The man has since been committed to a medical facility and police cannot release any information about his condition due to medical privacy laws.
