ABC agents busts still operations in Elmore, Houston counties

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Alabama Alcohol Beverage Control Board continues to find and destroy illegal moonshine stills. The agents assigned to ABC's Moonshine Task force were given tips from area citizens regarding stills in Elmore and Houston counties and started an investigation.

Investigators located one of the stills in the Elmore County town of Titus on May 26. The operation was being hidden in a wooded area off Mini-Knight Road. No arrests have been made but authorities say their investigation is ongoing.

In Houston County, ABC agents served a search warrant on May 17 at a home in Ashford. Investigators found what they called a "nearly-completed" still with a 55-gallon stainless steel cooker.

The 36-year-old male homeowner, who is not being identified at this time, was taken into custody and charged with possession of prohibited beverages and marijuana.

Since the Moonshine Task Force was formed in October 2013 agents have found and destroyed 20 illegal stills and 256 barrels of mash.
