BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The National Weather Service says they have confirmed another tornado that occurred on April 28 of this year. The total for that day is now up to 29 tornadoes after a short tornado track was identified by WFO Huntsville.

April 28, 2014 now stands as the fourth greatest number of tornadoes in a single event in Alabama. One tornado was identified in the Mobile County Warning Area(CWA) and 10 were in the Huntsville CWA. The Birmingham CWA had the most of that day with 18 tornadoes. Two of Birmingham's tornadoes originated in Mississippi and another tornado moved from the Birmingham CWA to the Huntsville CWA.

So far, Alabama has had 33 tornadoes this year. The 50-year average for the state is 34 tornadoes and the 10-year from 2004 to 2013 is 68. The 10-year average is believed to be heavily influenced by 2011, in which Alabama had 145 tornadoes.

November 24, 2001 has the third spot for most tornadoes in a single event with 36. Above that is April 15, 2011 with 45 tornadoes. The top spot remains April 27, 2011 with 62 tornadoes.
