Maxwell AFB gets its second female commander

The 42nd Air Wing at Maxwell Air Force Base has a new commander. A welcome ceremony was held Friday for Colonel Andrea Tullos.

Colonel Tullos has previously served as a staff officer at the combatant command, Joint Staff, Air Staff and major command levels, to include duties as the chief of Antiterrorism and Critical Infrastructure Protection Division, Operations Directorate, Headquarters, U.S. Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii, and as deputy division chief, Iraq Division, Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate on the joint staff.

She has completed multiple squadron command tours, and a mission support group command at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., supporting Air Combat Command's largest wing. Most recently, she served as chief of the Arabian Peninsula and Iraq Division, Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate (J-5) on the Joint Staff.

It was also an important day at Maxwell for another reason. Col. Tullos is only the second woman Commander of the 42nd ABW.

She says she is indebted to the women who made possibilities like this one available to her.

"My husband and I are just absolutely thrilled to be here. It is an honor to serve in the 42nd Air Base Wing. This is a wing that has such a proud tradition and a long history of exceptional service," said Colonel Tullos.

She will serve as the commander of the 42nd ABW for approximately two years before moving on to her next assignment. She takes over for Col. Trent Edwards, who was reassigned to San Antonio.
