LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A
black lab is recovering in Louisville after someone attempted to decapitate him in Henderson County,
according to The Arrow Fund.
The dog, named Mooney, was
brought the Henderson County Humane Society by someone who saw him stumble in
a yard and noticed his gruesome injury.
Thursday, the Henderson
County Humane Society contacted The Arrow Fund. Shortly after, Dr. Jeff Allen and his copilot Valerie
Ledbetter Hurt flew to get Mooney and brought him back to Louisville for
The Arrow Fund said in
addition to the wound on his neck Mooney has both new and old bite wounds on
his body, his right shoulder is swollen and he tested positive for heartworm.
Thursday evening Mooney
was placed on IV pain medicine, fluids and antibiotics.
He is expected to undergo
surgery once he gains enough strength.
The Henderson County Animal
Control is investigating the case.
