BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

UAB Hospital says that they will take additional precautions to fight legionella bacteria in its water system.

Friday and Saturday, the hospital will add chlorine dioxide to the water to kill any remaining bacteria. This affects floors five through seven at the Women and Infants Center.

The hospital says water use on the floors will be limited until 6 p.m. Saturday. After that, staff will treat water in other areas of the building as a precaution.

Nine people have tested positive for legionella which includes one visitor to the hospital. Two of those people, who were patients, have died but their cause of death has not been determined.
