NeighborWorks collaborates with House of Heroes to rebuild home for widow

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

NeighborWorks Columbus and House of Heroes are collaborating for the first time to help rebuild a home for a deceased veteran's elderly widow in Bibb City.

Edna Reeves is 84-years-old, and lost her husband a few years ago. He served in the Navy during World War II.

More than 30 volunteers helped move furniture, and clean the house to get ready for the construction work.

Reeves' son, James Reeves, says the family has been living in the house since 1964.

"It's an incredible blessing," James Reeves says. "It's my belief that it's directly from the Lord, so this is something we could have never done on our own, couldn't have accomplished, and this is something that I'm very grateful for… For all the volunteers that have come out from House of Heroes and NeighborWorks."

The Reeves family is the seventh Columbus Cottage recipient.

There will be a public announcement on Friday, June 6, to introduce Edna Reeves and her family as House of Heroes and NeighborWorks Columbus discuss the plan to revamp the house.

The project is expected to be completed by August 2014.
