CHILTON CO., AL (WSFA) -

A single-vehicle crash on Sunday in Chilton County claimed the life of a Prattville teenager.

Alabama State Troopers say 18-year-old Christy Christian was killed when the 2005 Nissan Altima she was driving, left the roadway and overturned. The accident occurred at 3:13 a.m. on Interstate 65 southbound at mile marker 214, which is two miles north of Clanton.

Prattville High School teacher Obed Ellis talked to WSFA, and told us that Christian had graduated from the high school on Friday. According to Ellis, Christian worked a job to support herself and lived on her own, while also taking care of her two siblings. She had enlisted in the Army and was planning on attending basic training this summer.

Many peers commented on the WSFA 12 Facebook page to send their condolences:

I have known Christy since she was in Kindergarten! She was a sweet girl!! Prayers for her family!!- Tammy Mainor Mitchell

So sad to see that this happened! You were so much fun to have as a camper!- Lizzie Elmore

State Troopers report that Christian was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

A passenger in the vehicle was also injured and was transported to UAB. The extent of the passenger's injuries is unknown at this time.

An fund has been set up on gofundme.com to help with funeral expenses. You can also make donations to the family at Prattville Memorial Chapel where funeral arrangements are being finalized.
