Ceramic heater recall affects 150,000 units

If you have recently packed your space heaters away for the summer, take a moment to pull them out briefly and look them over. A recall has been issued on a certain model of ceramic heater due to a fire hazard.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said that more than 150,000 ceramic heaters produced by Sunbeam Products under its Holmes brand have been recalled.

The affected unit is an oscillating heater; model number HCH1823M, which can be found on a label on the bottom of the product. It was sold in black, purple, red, blue and white colors from national retailers including Walmart and Target.

The company reported 132 reports of units that unexpectedly stopped working and/or overheated. There was one report of smoke inhalation and 10 reports of property damage involving burned flooring associated with use of the item.

The company is offering reimbursement checks on all heaters returned to and verified by the company. Click here to verify your model is affected and to obtain a return kit.
