HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
A Redstone Arsenal employee will go on to compete at the regional level for the Department of the Army Civilian of the Year award.
UAS Deputy Project Manger Richard Kretzschmar was nominated by his supervisor. He is the 2014 winner of the Association of the United States Army Redstone-Huntsville Chapter DA Civilian of the Year Award.
"At this level, it's really about what your team does, and I'm responsible for leading that team, but the accomplishments, there's no individual effort in the work we do. It truly is a team effort and I've got a great team," Kretzschmar said.
We talked with the local AUSA committee chairman, Jerry Hamilton to get a better understanding about the award and the civilian workforce behind it.
Hamilton said, "They provide a continuing base of knowledge, expertise, and support and continuity of operations that keep our Army going."
Kretzschmar competed with organizations across Redstone Arsenal to win this award, but now as he heads into the regional competition, his exceptional performance will be pitted against others across the Southeast.
If Kretzschmar wins regionals, he'll move on to the national competition. If he wins nationals, he'll become the third person in the arsenal's history to do that since the award was first handed out 12 years ago.
