If you're interested in trying out for one of the 500 extras positions in the upcoming feature file "Selma", being produced by Brad Pitt and Oprah Winfrey, here's how to sign up.
There are two casting calls, one in Montgomery and one in Selma. The casting call in Montgomery was held Monday, June 9 at the Ralph David Abernathy Auditorium on Alabama State University's campus.
The casting call in Selma is Tuesday, June 10 from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center located at 1000 Selma Avenue.
Before trying out, you'll need to make sure you fit the criteria the production company is looking for. Organizers say those trying out must be male or female between 17 and 70 years old. Candidates should be either African American or Caucasian, have a valid photo ID with a recent photo and be eligible to work in the U.S.
Casting is seeking background as marchers, troopers, onlookers and national guards.
Those chosen must be willing to work 12-14 hours in vintage wardrobe and be available and have a way to get to wardrobe fitting in Selma between June 17 and 21st.
Those selected will be paid $64 for eight hours.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided on filming days.
"Selma" is the story of Martin Luther King, Jr's voting rights struggle that culminated with the march from Selma to Montgomery and enactment of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
