MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Montgomery Police are releasing more details after the standoff at an area apartment complex on Tuesday. The incident involved only one person and occurred at the Festival Apartments on Festival Drive.

Police say 32-year-old Sammy Nelson Jr. is under arrest and charged with burglary first, domestic violence, menacing and unlawful imprisonment, after the five hour standoff.

During the incident, S.W.A.T. assisted law enforcement by firing two canisters of tear gas into the apartment which is when Nelson ultimately surrendered.

Nelson was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. MPD officials say the he had a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Also assisting in the operation were members of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department.
