HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The big race in the primaries this year is the one for governor, and that race is now down to two men.

On the Republican side, it was no contest. Governor Robert Bentley easily won the primary with 89% of the vote. He was declared the winner of the Republican primary only an hour after polls closed.

Governor Bentley defeated Bob Starkey and Stacy George with 89% of the vote. After his win, the governor spoke at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. He thanked his supporters for the confidence they have in him. He said he will continue to fight for jobs and small business and will continue to recruit large industry to the state.

"We got to win another election in November…to continue what I hope a good eight years in the state as your governor," Governor Bentley said. "God bless you and thank you for letting us be here tonight."

We'll have to wait and see who wins in November, but it looks like either way, a doctor will be in the governor's mansion.

Former District 5 Congressman Parker Griffith won the Democratic primary with 64% of the vote.

Griffith defeated Kevin Bass in the primary. Griffith is a successful businessman who has owned radio stations, nursing homes and funeral homes. He is also a retired North Alabama oncologist. He said he'll focus on education, expanding Medicaid and creating jobs.

"The first thing I'm going to do as governor is call a special session, 300 to 500,000 Alabamians," Griffith said.

Governor Bentley will face Griffith in November for the general election.
