SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A homeless teenager and his friend were both charged with a felony after they allegedly broke into a home on Breckwood Boulevard Thursday night.

Police responded to 281 Breckwood Blvd. about 10:40 p.m. after an alert neighbor heard breaking glass and reported the suspicious activity, according to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.

The neighbor then looked outside to see two people fleeing from the back of the house toward Pear Street. The good Samaritan then gave police a full description of the suspects, Delaney said.

"Officers fanned out through the neighborhood and spotted the two breakers on Pear Street," Delaney said in a news release to CBS 3.

One of the men dropped a large knife after he saw authorities approaching, he said.

"Look we didn't mean nothing by it. I'm homeless that's why we broke into the house," one suspect told police, according to an arrest report.

The neighbor positively identified the suspects and they were arrested.

Police charged Nicholas Traylor, 18, of 156 Kensington Ave., and Nathaniel Negron, 18, residing without an address, with breaking and entering at night. Both teens were held overnight pending their arraignment Friday morning, Delaney said.
