WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WWBT) -

It was a celebration of rising joy for Dr. Maya Angelou.

Former President Bill Clinton, First Lady Michelle Obama and the reigning queen of daytime television Oprah Winfrey all spoke to honor Maya Angelou.

"Maya Angleou is the greatest woman that I have ever known," said Winfrey. "The loss I feel I cannot describe."

It was a solemn yet historic occasion.

The dancer, civil rights activist, medal of freedom recipient and acclaimed poet used words to inspire and uplift the world.

"Words so powerful that they carried a little black girl from the southside of Chicago all the way to the White House," said Michelle Obama.

President Bill Clinton's words comforted those in attendance.

"God loaned her his voice. She had the voice of God and then he decided he wanted it back for a while," said President Clinton.
