MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A brand new food truck has officially opened in downtown Montgomery, and just in time for Second Saturday.

The Bullet is permanently parked at the corners of Tallapoosa and Commerce streets across from the Renaissance Hotel, near the business incubators. It's parked there for a reason. The food truck itself is an incubator.

It's a unique concept, one that will allow restaurants to test out the downtown business scene while offering a new lunch spot for residents.

For now, the food service will come from the popular Montgomery restaurant Shashy's Fine Foods on Mulberry Street. The plans are to open for lunch only at the onset, but over time, extend their hours, serve coffee, and allow other restaurants to come in and test the downtown market.

"We want to provide a venue for different restaurants and eating establishments from around town to try out how business is downtown and see if it's something that can work for them," said Chase Fisher. Fisher is one of four partners in River and Rail, LLC, the company that owns the Food Truck.

The concept was dreamed up by four young businessmen, all in their late 20's or early 30's. The owners Chase Fisher, Mike Shows, Ben Blanchard and Scott Smith bought the Airstream about three years ago. With their own elbow grease, hard work, and personal investment, they polished up the old RV and outfitted it to be a full service food truck.

"This entire effort was to make Montgomery better. We were all living here in Montgomery, we became friends, and one of our friends said, 'You know, good cities have food trucks'. And that's where it kind of spawned," said Mike Shows.

"It's been really fun to do something that is all our own. I think there are a lot of ways for young people to get involved in what is going on downtown without having to make a huge investment," added Fisher.

Over time, outdoor tables will be added to the area around the food truck, and hopefully, an awning and extra sidewalks as well.

Shows said, "There is some novelty in this being the first [true] food truck here. But with this being the first, we certainly don't want it to be the last. We want this to start the culture of food trucks and food trailers coming to Montgomery."
