TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Tuition hikes for the University of Alabama and UAB have been approved for the 2014-2015 school year.

The UA finance committee approved the increases on Thursday, and the UA Board of Trustees gave the final approval on Friday. This will be the 7th year in a row tuition has increased for the University of Alabama.

Although tuition for UA and UAB increased, UAH's tuition actually dropped for both Alabama residents and non-residents. Officials say that's due to UAH revamping their tuition structure in the spring.

Kelcey McClatchie is a senior accounting major at the University of Alabama. She says that so far, she has paid $43,312 so far to attend the university as an out-of-state student.

Like McClatchie, the majority of students FOX6 News spoke with Thursday said enough is enough when it comes to paying more for their education.

"I don't necessarily feel like it's fair. We already pay more than double than in-state students. And raising it even more, it just makes it seem like they really don't want us here," McClatchie said.

Ray Hayes, Executive Vice Chancellor of the University of Alabama System, said the proposed increase is due to a number of reasons.

"With increased expenses that we don't have any control over, there's just not a lot left. We're not going to go back to the state funding that we had in 2008 and we need to look forward and try to do the best we can looking forward about what we can do."

These are the approved new tuition costs, per semester:

Undergraduate residents:

UA: $4,913, increase of $188 per semester

UAB: $4,640, increase of $188 per semester

UAH: $4,579, decrease of $17 per semester

Undergraduate tuition for non-resident:

UA: $12,475, increase of $500 per semester

UAB: $10,610, increase of $413 per semester

UAH: $10,616, decrease of $137 per semester
