(WOAI/CNN) - The U.S. Army has appointed a two-star general to investigate how and why Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl left his base in Afghanistan, resulting in his capture by the Taliban.
Bergdahl spent five years in captivity until his release last month.
He returned to the U.S. earlier this week to continue medical treatment.
Bergdahl was exchanged for five Taliban figures being held at a U.S. military detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The investigation is expected to start next week, but it's not clear when Bergdahl will undergo formal questioning.
The identity of the general investigating the case has not yet been made public.
