ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) -

David Michael Carr is pleading guilty to manslaughter more than two years after the death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter.

Carr entered a plea Monday in the Elmore County courtroom of Judge Sibley Reynolds.

Carr was accused of striking the little girl in the head at a home off Deatsville Highway in 2011.

Authorities responded to the home on reports that the child was having seizures, but medical professionals at two hospitals, Baptist South and Children's Hospital in Birmingham, strongly suspected child abuse.

The child later died and her cause of death was ruled as the result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 31 in Judge Reynolds' courtroom.
