A cross was burned in the yard of a Smith County man after what his family is referring to as a vicious hate crime occurred. Family members say that Craig Wilson was beaten with brass knuckles and shotMore >>
A burning cross, a Smith county man beaten and shot by a family member, and in critical condition. We are told this is much more than a family feud, and outraged family members are calling it a "hate crime."
A local father speaks exclusively Tuesday to Fox Toledo and WTOL. This is the second family to allege physical abuse by a Riverdale teacher. He says his son came home with injuries that he claims came from kindergarten teacher Barbara Williams.
The father, Bryce Blanton in Forest, Ohio, says that he wants Williams charged with physically abusing his son.
"He'd come home with marks on his face, you know, marks on his arm where someone had grabbed him," said Blanton.
Blanton says it happened two years ago when his son was in the Riverdale School kindergarten class of Williams. He doesn't want his son's face or name revealed, but says he has Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism. Blanton said at the time, his son wouldn't tell the parents how he was getting hurt.
"His injuries were persistent to someone grabbing him by the face like that and he also would come home with injuries under his arms, you know, fingernail marks, where someone would have grabbed him forcefully up under the arms," said Blanton.
Blanton says his eyes were opened when we first reported on the surveillance video, taken in May in a Riverdale hallway. It shows Williams getting physical with kindergartener Ian Nelson.
Williams has since been charged with misdemeanor child endangering.
"I knew exactly where they came from. I knew exactly where. They fit like a puzzle," said Blanton.
Blanton says he filed a report with the Hancock County Sheriff's office on Saturday and handed over photos of their son's alleged injuries. He is being represented by Daniel Margolis, the same attorney representing the Nelsons in their case.
But, Blanton insists he came forward on his own.
"I've never met the Nelson family in my life. I've never seen the Nelson kid. I've never met his parents," said Blanton.
Blanton says he is meeting with a sheriff's investigator again on Thursday.
