Fatally stabbed man found 6 months after death

OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

Authorities say a man found killed inside his home earlier this month was actually slain in late 2013.

Edward M. Scott, 22, has been charged with first-degree murder and will be in court Thursday afternoon. His bond is set at $1 million.

Scott was taken into custody on Wednesday.

On June 8, officers were called to the home of 51-year-old Chidozie "Joe" Ojiaka near West 75th Street and Lowell Avenue after neighbors reported seeing a large amount of flies gather in the windows and smelling a strong odor.

Investigators said Ojiaka was stabbed to death.

According to court documents, Ojiaka was killed between Nov. 30 and Dec. 9. Scott is accused of "intentionally and with premeditation" killing Ojiaka.

The victim's brother spoke about his loss.

Sam Ojiaka, who lives in Olathe, KS, said he last spoke to his younger brother back in November. He did try to get in touch with "Joe" Ojiaka several times in recent months, leaving him messages before he went on vacation to his native Nigeria.

Sam Ojiaka says he doesn't understand who would want to harm his brother and he hopes to get some answers soon.

"I hope that justice gets done in this case and that we can have a closure sometime soon," he said.

Sam Ojiaka said because he and his brother had different schedules, they didn't see each other often. He thought his brother was busy with work.

"Joe" Ojiaka owned two car lots in the metro and was often towing vehicles and going to auctions.
