MIDLAND CITY, AL (WSFA) -

The mayor of Midland City in Dale County confirms officials with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation served a subpoena Thursday seeking records.

Mayor Virgil Skipper said the agents were looking for documents dating between October 2011 and April 2014. Those documents were related to payroll, bank statements and invoices.

Mayor Skipper said the ABI did not explain why they wanted the documents but said he was not concerned because the city has an open door policy.

WSFA 12 News reached out to ABI officials for comment and were told that the subpoena was made at the request of the Dale County District Attorney's office and was served on the Midland City records office.

Dale County District Attorney Kirke Adams says nothing has been officially filed in court. What happened on Thursday was the result of complaints filed by citizens. The findings will either prove or disprove the claims giving the office the opportunity to move forward, Adams said.
