TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Supporters have started an online fundraiser to help a Georgia dad charged with murder for allegedly leaving his son in a vehicle all day.

Justin Ross Harris is originally from Tuscaloosa and is a former IT director at the West Alabama AIDS Outreach.

One of his friends at the outreach said Harris is a great dad who should not be charged with murder.

At last check, nearly $15,000 had been raised to help Harris. The donation page says "the family can use as much help as everyone can give and prayers."

A petition has been posted on Change.org to persuade the Cobb County, Georgia District Attorney to drop the murder charge against Harris.

Harris pleaded not guilty to that charge in court Thursday and said it was all an accident. Police said there is more to investigate and they are not willing to write it off as an accident.
