CULLMAN COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

The attorney for a Cullman County man accused of killing a convicted sex offender will file a complaint with the judicial inquiry commission after a judge denied a hearing to address the question of bond reduction and other legal issues.

Jay Maynor is accused of killing Raymond Brooks as well as shooting at his step-daughter's boyfriend at a Berlin gas station June 8. He is charged with murder, attempted murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Attorney Tommy Drake contends that Maynor's $141,000 cash bond is too high and his family is cannot afford to post Maynor's bail.

On Monday, the judge denied a motion for a second hearing regarding the bond reduction and other legal issues, which prompted Drake to file a complaint.

The judge declined to reduce the bond or change it to a property bond on Thursday, June 19.

Drake has also filed a motion to waive Maynor's preliminary hearing and send the case on to a grand jury.
