Two iconic Cincinnati buildings are among 11 landmarks that have been named as the most endangered historic places in the country.

Union Terminal and Music Hall made the list, which was released on Monday by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Other sites range from a former slave trade center in Virginia to a church in Hawaii.

Along with the National Trust, a local cultural task force has called out Hamilton County commissioners to put the fate of Union Terminal and Music Hall on the November ballot. The ballot measure would propose a 0.25 cent sales tax increase to fund the repairs, which will cost a reported $150 million.

"If something isn't done to these buildings then they could be lost to the next generation of Cincinnatians," John Hildreth, Vice President of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, said Tuesday at a press conference at Music Hall. Two people stood by Hildreth dressed in cut-outs of the iconic buildings attached to speech bubbles reading "Speak for us."

Commissioners have until August 6 to decide if the tax measure will be added to the ballot.

For more than 20 years, the National Trust has used the list of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places to raise awareness about threats facing some of the nation's greatest treasures.

Union Terminal houses the Cincinnati Museum Center and was constructed in 1933 as a railroad interchange point between Northeastern and Midwestern states.
