ANDALUSIA, AL (WSFA) -

The City of Andalusia is naming its new police chief and assistant police chief by taking the word 'interim' out of the titles of the two men currently holding the positions.

During a news conference Wednesday afternoon Paul Hudson was named Chief of Police and Paul Dean was named Assistant Chief of Police.

Hudson, who is a 20 year veteran, looks to build on the department's success.

"The biggest thing is we wanted to build a professional department before I was appointed interim chief," Hudson said. "We are going to continue working on that, and bring in high quality training for our officers to make them the best officers we can make them."

The previous police chief, Wilbur Williams, retired after more than 40 years in law enforcement.
