Auto writers receive tour of Montgomery Hyundai Plant

A Montgomery made car is getting the attention of auto writers and bloggers from around the world. This week, journalists are touring the Hyundai plant to learn about the newly redesigned 2015 Sonata.

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing is hosting more than 100 journalists this week as part of what's called a ride and drive series.

The tour started with writers, bloggers, and auto industry experts learning about Hyundai and the newly redesigned Sonata.

"It's so important to build that momentum so they come away from here impressed with these vehicles," said Dave Zuchowski, President and CEO of Hyundai North America.

After the journalists finished up the presentation, they then got to take a tour of the entire Hyundai facility. After that, they ended up on the pre-delivery and inspection floor where they got watch the vehicles drive off the assembly line. They then were able to get in the driver seat and take a drive all the way to Sylacauga.

"This is a great car to start with," said Jean Jennings, an auto writer. "I've always like this car so I'm really excited to drive it. It certainly looks wonderful."

Writers say Hyundai is making waves in the auto industry, part of why they were drawn to the tour.

For many of them, this was their first time seeing the plant and the city of Montgomery.

"I'm from a small town, and this town is exquisite," Jennings said. "That downtown is spectacular."

Hyundai leaders say the new redesign has energized the entire brand.

"These media folks have been around automobile and around plants for most of their lives, and you would think you would get somewhat jaded," Zuchowski said. "But when you actually go on a plant tour, we use that as an opportunity to show the reason it's such a great car, and it really does re-energize everybody."

It brings a new kind of excitement about a car made right here in Montgomery.

The Hyundai ride and drive tour continues on Thursday and Friday.
