COLUMBIA, MS -

(WMC) - A 1979 Chevrolet Corvette will be delivered to its rightful owner in Detroit after it was stolen more than three decades ago.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation found the car at a residence in Colombia near the state's southern border.

The Secretary of State discovered an individual tried to register two Corvettes under the same vehicle identification number, which is when the first car was located in a Michigan community last year.

Miss. authorities, while working with Michigan State Police, recovered 71-year-old George Talley's treasured, silver Corvette on June 17. With 47,000 miles, it still runs.

"They looked into it [the theft], but didn't recover it and nothing happened, and 33 years passed," Talley told Detroit Free Press. "It was a great thing that the MSP and Mississippi State troopers, they did their job and found it."

But all that time isn't too late for justice. MBI agents said in a news release they need help in the ongoing investigation; they ask anyone with information to call law enforcement.

In the meantime, Talley's former employer General Motors announced Wednesday they will pay to have the car shipped from the Hattiesburg police station to Detroit.
