BUFORD, GA (CBS46) -

CBS46 has learned that a former Georgia Tech football player and his wife have turned themselves into police after he allegedly locked his 13-year-old child in a room for most of the past two years.

According to a news release from Gwinnett County police, the child was confined to the room without books, toys or entertainment, and did not attend school or any other activities.

The release also mentioned the child did not have access to his nine other siblings.

The child's parents, Recardo and Therian Wimbush, were initially allowed to keep the victim, along with their other children, when the Department of Family and Children Services first made their visit on June 16.

A hearing was later held on June 19, which is when a judge placed all the kids in DFCS custody.

After an investigation that showed the incident to be more severe, both parents were charged with cruelty to children and false imprisonment.

Police said the parents turned themselves into police Friday.

The father, Recardo Wimbush, played linebacker for Georgia Tech.
