COBB COUNTY, GA (WBRC) -

An online petition for a Tuscaloosa man charged with murder for allegedly leaving his young son in a hot car has been removed.

The Change.org petition to "Drop Murder Charges Against Justin Harris for Son's Accidental Death" closed with 11,538 supporters.

The creator of the petition, a group called "Parents Support Parents," posted the following message on the Change.org page:

"Hello, I think that based on the recent developments this petition is no longer relevant. I still pray that this was truly an accident. If that is the case, the DA now knows that the community does not want Justin prosecuted on murder charges."

The most recent signature was made around noon on Thursday.

Justin Harris, 34, has been charged felony murder and second-degree cruelty to children in connection to the death of his son, 22-month-old Cooper Harris.

Harris is accused of leaving his son Cooper in the car while he worked at a Home Depot in Georiga.

Police say Harris and his son ate a Chick-fil-A that morning, then Harris left the boy in his rear-facing car seat while he worked.

Police also believe Harris went back to his car during lunch to put something inside, leaving his son for a second time. After work, Harris pulled over his car at a shopping center and asked for help with his child.

Harris says he was supposed to drop Cooper off at daycare, but he forgot.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office says Cooper's cause of death was hyperthermia. The medical examiner is still waiting on toxicology reports to give an official cause and manner of death.

Cooper Harris will be laid to rest in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, June 28.
