Controversial group holding conference in Wetumpka

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A controversial group is holding their national conference in the city of Wetumpka this weekend.

The League of the South, who according to their website are a group whose ultimate goal is a free and independent southern republic, is holding the conference on Friday and Saturday at the Alabama LS Cultural Center and Headquarters.

Back in May, the group posted a billboard in Montgomery featuring the word Secede. The billboard company removed its message following public outcry.

Members with the League also held a protest in front of the Southern Poverty Law Center in support of Alabama's ban on same-sex marriage, which the SPLC is trying to overturn.

According to the agenda for the conference, following the session on, "How to Organize and Conduct a League Public Demonstration",  the group will hold an actual two-hour street demonstration at a busy intersection in the city.
