McCrory: I will veto attempts to hide charter school records

RALEIGH, NC (WECT) -

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory released a statement Monday saying he will veto any attempt to hide the names of charter school employees from the public record.

Governor Pat McCrory released a statement about Senate Bill 793 that would not require charter schools to release employee salaries. WECT has been trying to get salary information from our local charter schools, most of which eventually complied, although the Roger Bacon schools wouldn't release administrators' salaries.

"We need transparency of salary information for all public schools - both traditional and charter schools," Governor McCrocy said. "I will veto any attempt to hide the names of charter school employees from the public record and I encourage the General Assembly to pass the legislation without this provision."

Governor Roy Cooper will decide soon whether to veto the budget plan passed by the General Assembly. House lawmakers voted 77-38 Thursday afternoon to give final approval to the $23 billion spending plan that supporters say contains middle-class tax cuts, nearly ten percent teacher raises on average over two years, and money for Hurricane Matthew relief and reserves.
