SAU PAULO, BRAZIL (CNN) - It was an epic finish, but it's all over for Team USA.

The World Cup dream came to a crashing halt against Belgium, despite a record setting performance from goalie Tim Howard.

The goalie with rock star status says despite team USA's incredible World Cup run, the big win just wasn't "meant to be."

The margins are so fine, you know, when you play in the big games against top teams and Belgium is a scary team. They’re so talented. You know, a little bit of quality at the end. When you play against top players, sometimes you can play - you can play your utmost and you still get beat,” Howard said. “At the end of the game we created two incredible opportunities and we were right there. We were right in it, and we could be talking about a whole different scenario this morning, but it wasn't to be.”
