MARIETTA, GA (WSFA) -

A big crowd gathered at a public memorial Wednesday to remember former Auburn football player Philip Lutzenkirchen.

The memorial service was held at Lassiter High School in Marietta, GA, where Lutzenkirchen went to school.

A video was shown at the end of the memorial on Wednesday, paying tribute to the former Auburn Tiger star.

A public visitation and funeral mass will start Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta.

Lutzenkirchen, 23, and Georgia athlete Joseph Ian Davis, also 23, were killed on Sunday in a car crash. Two other passengers were injured in the wreck.

Troopers say the vehicle was going 55 miles per hour when it went through a stop sign and overturned. Toxicology reports are pending.

Lutzenkirchen was a fan favorite at Auburn and remember for his work on and off the field.
